Geelong West wins B Grade @ Blue Lake Brass Festival 2014

On the 14th-16th of November 2014, the Geelong West Brass Band travelled to Mount Gambier, SA to compete in the Blue Lake Brass Festival. Geelong West have regularly attended this competition, and look forward to the trip every year.

After a morning consisting of Official marching and the Massed Band march, the Geelong West Brass Band dressed up as Toy Soldiers and marched in the 2014 Christmas Parade. The band was awarded the Best Band on the Christmas Parade! Many thanks to those who helped create the costumes for the entire marching band.

Later on in the afternoon, the Band was first on in the B Grade section of the competition, up against Marion Band and Greater City of Dandenong Band. GWBB performed for their hymn "The Old Rugged Cross" featuring Michael Smith on Euphonium. For the major work, the band played Trittico. The On Stage march was BB & CF march and to finish, the band performed a cornet duet of Carnival of Venice, featuring Gemma Hale and Jeff Steele on Solo Cornet.

Geelong West were placed 1st out of the three bands. The individual scores for each piece can be viewed on the Results page.

The band would like to thank our helpers who came along for the trip, and we hope that they had a great time :)
