Geelong West Places 3rd at Bendigo Eisteddfod

On Sunday the 26th May 2013, the Geelong West Brass Band competed for the first time in A Grade at the Bendigo Eisteddfod held at Strathdale Community Hall.

The band took on 3 other bands in A Grade, and played three pieces showing off the bands talents. For their major work, the band played 'The Essence of Time' by Peter Graham - a favourite piece of the band. Wally Pope was featured in the solo 'Variations on a Welsh Theme' by Peter Kneale - a piece he hasn't played as a solo item for over 20 years, and did a fantastic job on Eb Tuba. To finish their program, the band played 'Armenian Fire dance' by Goff Richards, which was well received by the audience and the adjudicator - scoring 48/50.

The band placed 3rd for the day with score of 84, 42 and 48: with a total of 174. The band was happy with how they played for their first Bendigo competition in A Grade; and is looking forward to working on their skills leading up to the Victorian State Championships to be held at Royal South Street (Ballarat) in August.
