Geelong - The Brass End of the World

On the 1st of July, the Geelong West Brass Band, together with Colin Mockett and the Rock and Roll Dancers from Colac put on a concert extravaganza at the Geelong West Town Hall.

Those who attended were in for a treat. Not only did they hear the Geelong West Brass Band performing pieces of a very high standard, they were visually entertained by the many choreographed movements organised by the bands MD Mr. Jeff Steele.

The concert featured many soloists, including the band's Principle Cornet player Gemma Hale, Principle Euphonium Ross Quaife, Trombonist Fenella Sutherland and Drummer Nick Oram. The Cossack Fire Dance also showed off many solos from other members of the band, such as the percussionist's Moana and Brett on Xylophone, Sarah on cornet and Ross and Richard on Euphonium. The concert ended with a rendition of Lionel Ritchie's "All Night Long" that saw the Solo Cornets pick up their trumpets and feature with the Eupho/Bari section; with solo lead trumpet featuring our conductor Jeff Steele.

The concert was extremely well received by the audience, and jump started the band's fundraising for the 2013 Nationals in Perth.
